Description CemBond contains a special thermoplastic resin with exceptional adhesive qualities. It has been proven over the past 34 years to be a reliable general-purpose adhesive for the building industry.
Purpose To dispense with hacking when plastering, tiling or painting onto smooth or friable surfaces. It can be used as an adhesive, a bonder of friable surfaces, a prime coat of PVA and acrylic paints, as a cement additive to improve adhesion and mixed with cement as a crack filler. It is also invaluable for improving the adhesion of cement-based decorative coatings to difficult surfaces.
Types Supplied in concentrated liquid form only.
Advantages Eliminates hacking. Can be diluted with water. Lime fast. Compatible with cement, lime and sand. Non-flammable. Translucent. Adheres to concrete, brick, tiles, cement plaster, stone. |
Limitations Will not bond to plastic, rubber or gypsum plaster. Cannot be used in freezing weather. Priming or bonding coats without the addition of cement are not recommended for permanently damp conditions. Nor in water containing structures.
Surface Preparation Ensure surfaces are hard, firm and clean, free of grease and oil and not flaking.
Weather Avoid use of CemBond during freezing weather.
Storage Store in a dry shed protected from freezing for 12 months. Stir well from the bottom if storage is prolonged.
Packaging Supplied in 1 litre, 5 litre and 20 litre plastic buckets. |
APPLICATIONS Plastering onto smooth concrete surfaces Surfaces to be clean, hard and dry. Prime with a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 1 volume water. While primer is tacky throw on a slush comprising 1 volume cement, 1 volume 1 volume plaster sand and 1 volume river sand mixed to a thick throwable slush using a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 5 volumes water. Allow one day before plastering with a mixture of 1 volume cement, 1 volume river sand and 4 volumes plaster sand. Thickness of plaster not to exceed 10 mm.
Plastering onto painted surfaces that are hard and firm Surface to be clean, firm, hard and dry. It is recommended that the surface is wire brushed using a cup brush fitted to an angle grinder.
Key for tiling onto glazed ceramic tiles or firm, hard oil paint Wash and scrub tiles or painted surfaces using detergent and scouring powder. Ensure that all grease is removed. Flush thoroughly with clean water. Mix Cemcrete Tile Adhesive using a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 3 volumes water to a brushable slurry. Brush onto tiles or painted surfaces using a block-brush or paint brush. Allow to dry and harden for 2 hours and fix tiles using Cemcrete Tile Adhesive. If there is any doubt about the adhesion of tiles or paint to the walls the surface should be additionally chipped every 50 mm.
CemBond primer/bonder for PVA paints and Cemcrete Thermoplastic Coating For application to absorbent surfaces dilute 1 volume CemBond with 5 volumes water. Roll or brush onto dry surface. Drying time is approximately 2 hours.
Coverage : 30m2/litre of concentrated CemBond mixed 1:5 with water per coat.
For application to non-absorbent surfaces dilute 1 volume CemBond with 2 volumes water.
Coverage : 27m2/litre of concentrated CemBond mixed 1:2 with water per coat.
Not suitable for priming gypsum plaster.
Improving the adhesion of CemWash and StippleCrete to smooth concrete, -plaster, firm paint or face brick surfaces
If wall surfaces are dusting or have been stripped of lime wash, wirebrush and prime with a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 5 volumes water. When mixing for the first coat of CemWash, use the above solution in place of water. The first coat should be cured the next day by wetting three times with water. The second coat need not contain CemBond. The second coat must also be cured by wetting with water three times the following day. Coverage : approximately 1 litre of CemBond per 25 kg bag of CemWash used.
Improving the adhesion of Cemcrete Texturite Roughcast to smooth concrete or smooth plaster
If wall surfaces are dusting, wirebrush and prime with a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 5 volumes water and allow to dry. When mixing for the first coat, use the above solution in place of water. The second and third coats need not contain CemBond. A fourth coat might assist in obtaining absolute uniformity of colour. Each coat must dry before the next coat is applied. Each coat must be cured by wetting with water three times the following day. Coverage : approximately 1 litre of CemBond per 25 kg bag of Texturite Roughcast used.
To provide a thin, economical levelling coat to face brick surfaces to obliterate the joints and obviate conventional plastering
Surfaces to be dry, clean, free from grease etc. and hard. Mix 1 volume Portland Cement with 2 volumes plaster sand and bring to a pourable slurry using a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 5 volumes water. Hold the steel float at a 45° angle to the wall and, touching the wall, pour the well-stirred slurry onto the float using a scoop. As the trowel is moved upwards, it will cause the joints to be filled, but there will be no thickness of plaster on the bricks themselves. When the filling mixture has set for approximately 30 minutes (depending upon the weather and suction of the surface), scrape back to the brick surface using the steel trowel. When hard, this skim coat will provide a suitable surface for Cemcrete CemWash, Texturite Roughcast, StippleCrete, Thermoplastic Coating or Arctic Plaster. Coverage : depends on width and depth of joints.
To improve the adhesion of Cemcrete Arctic Plaster to smooth concrete, smooth plaster, face brick or firm painted surfaces
Prime surfaces with a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 5 volumes water. Allow to dry then apply a tack coat of 1 volume CemBond and 1 volume water. Before tack coat dries, apply Arctic Plaster in the normal way mixed with water only. Coverage : approximately 1 litre CemBond per 20 kg bag of Arctic Plaster used.
Mixed with Portland Cement as a crack filler
If the surface is dusting or friable, prime with a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 5 volumes water. When prime coat is dry (approximately 60 minutes), knife into the crack a paste of white or grey Portland Cement mixed with a solution of 1 volume CemBond and 5 volumes water. If the crack or hole is large, mix the cement with equal parts of sieved plaster sand. The larger the hole or patch, the more sand is needed to avoid cracking.
