Colour Hardener
|
Description A granolithic concrete material that strengthens and colours concrete floors. It is a special blend of cement, very hard-wearing aggregates, lime fast pigments and certain additives which set rock-hard, have exceptional abrasion resistance and reduces drying shrinkage.
Purpose To provide a very hard-wearing, attractive colouring system for the surface of concrete, whether steel floated to a smooth finish or textured, stamped or rolled to obtain different tiled or paved effects.
Types One type only, but used in conjunction with Cemcrete Coloured Release Agent in contrasting colours if to be imprinted with a design.
Advantages Improved abrasive resistance. Thoroughly colours concrete to a depth of about 2mm. No risk of colour being rubbed off or abraded. No need to repaint. Colours are light and alkali proof.
Applications Recommended for dusting onto wet concrete or topping when laid prior to floating and/or imprinting. More than one colour can be used, depending on the effect desired.
Site Work Storage Unopened bags can be stored on slats in a dry shed for 6 months.
Surface preparation Remove all bleed water. Apply Colour Hardener to wet concrete or topping before final set has taken place.
Weather Do not apply if rain or freezing conditions are expected within 4 hours of application. Cover during hot, dry weather to avoid premature drying which will halt the hydration process of the cement and reduce the ultimate strength.
Mixing Use as in dry powder form for dusting onto concrete surface before final wood- and steel floating takes place.
Masking Mask all areas where there is a risk of splashing and staining and where straight edges are required.
|
Application Surface to be damp, but not glistening with water. Surface can be de-watered by vacuum prior to application. Apply by dry shake hand method at the rate of about 2 to 5kg/m2 by dusting directly onto surface and float to obtain an even colour. For best results apply in two operations; the first with about 60% of the Colour Hardener required and, once floated, the balance where necessary. Finish with a mechanical or hand held steel float to a smooth finish.
Imprinting Dust Coloured Release Agent onto smooth finish being sure to cover the whole surface to prevent the mould from sticking to wet concrete. More than one colour can be used for different effects. Imprint as desired. Leave to harden for approximately 72 hours, clean off excess Coloured Release Agent by sweeping with a soft broom and then wash with a high-pressure hose.
Curing The completed work should be covered with plastic for the 72 hour hardening period to avoid premature drying of the concrete which will reduce the final strength. Allow to cure for a minimum of 14 days before sealing.
Sealing Exterior floors : apply 2 coats of Cemcrete Colour Hardener Sealer or Cemcrete Concrete Sealer in accordance with its data sheet. Interior floors : apply 1 coat of Cemcrete Colour Hardener Sealer or Cemcrete Concrete Sealer in accordance with its data sheet. When dry, apply a good thick coat of any proprietary floor polish (e.g. One Step).
Coverage Approximately 2 to 5kg/m2.
Packaging Supplied in 20kg non-returnable paper bags.

Coloured Release Agent
|
Description A coloured, cement-based powder release agent to be used in conjunction with texture imprint mats.
Purpose To add colour to the surface of the material being imprinted while also ensuring that the mould releases cleanly from the substrate.
Applications Coloured Release Agent was designed to be used in conjunction with Colour Hardener to provide colour contrast and ensure that the mould releases cleanly when imprinting the surface of Colour Hardener. It may also be used in conjunction with DecoCrete when imprinting is done.
|
Site Work Storage Unopened drums can be stored on slats in a dry shed for 6 months.
Special instructions After application Coloured Release Agent should be left on the imprinted surface for at least 72 hours to set. Thereafter rinse with clean water to remove excess material.
Coverage Approximately 300g/m2.
Packaging Available in 5kg and 15kg drums.

Colour Hardener Sealer
|
Description A non-yellowing clear, thermoplastic acrylic lacquer-based resin which displays excellent UV and moisture resistance. Has very fast solvent release, i.e. drying properties. The sealer greatly enhances the colour and protects the surface from the ingress of dirt and grease.
Purpose Provides a tough, durable, flexible, clear, penetrating coating on horizontal and vertical surfaces of concrete, cement plaster and masonry. Combines aesthetic appeal with protective performance. The main properties are UV resistance, nonyellowing, resists becoming brittle, water-fast, alkali resistant, water vapour permeable and carbon dioxide tight. It has good binding properties on friable surfaces and is re-coatable.
Applications Recommended for the sealing of Cemcrete's Colour Hardener against staining, mottling and general discolouration. Useful for protecting architectural and exposed aggregate concrete, masonry and brick walls.
Types Available in one type only.
Colours Clear only.
Specifying "Apply in 2 coats Cemcrete Colour Hardener Sealer using a paint roller or paintbrush. Surface to be dry and absolutely clean. Minimum of 1 hour between coats. All in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions."
Limitations Not for use in water-containing structures.
|
Site Work Storage Can be stored above 5oC in sealed steel drums for up to 6 months.
Suitable surfaces Architectural concrete, split concrete bricks, exposed aggregate concrete, brushed terrazzo, brick walling. All surfaces should be hard, dry and free from anything which could prevent penetration of the sealer. Curing membranes and shutter release agent must be completely removed. This is essential.
Surface preparation Surfaces should be clean, hard and dry at the time of application.
Weather Do not apply when the temperature is below 10oC. Nor on frozen surfaces.
Mixing Use straight from the can after stirring thoroughly. Clean all tools using white spirits.
Masking For best results all windows, doors and adjacent surfaces should be masked using masking tape and brown paper. All masking material must be removed at the end of a day's work.
Application Apply onecoat of Colour Hardener Sealer, followed by one coat of Colour Hardener standard or Heavy Duty Sealer. Polish is an optional extra.
Specimen finish A trial area should be treated on-site for the architect's approval.
Coverage Approximately 4 to 8m2 per litre per coat.
Packaging Supplied in 5 litre and 25 litre non-returnable steel drums.
