Description A coloured, cement-based, self-levelling floor covering for application onto rolled or wood-floated concrete floor slabs or screeds. It produces a 2mm smooth, decorative layer that is unaffected by rising damp. For interior use only.
Purpose To provide a very durable, economical, smooth, attractive alternative to tile or carpet floor coverings.
Types One type only, but can be used in conjunction with Cemcrete Flexbond for areas where there is heavier than pedestrian traffic requirements.
Applications Ideally suited for economical floor coverings requiring minimum maintenance and long life.
Specifying "Apply Cemcrete's FloorCrete in an approved colour at a rate of 5m2/20kg bag in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions."
Site Work Storage Store in a dry shed on wooden slats for a maximum of 6 months.
Suitable surfaces Good clean concrete, cement toppings or cement screeds that have been rolled or struck-off to level and wood floated (not steel trowelled). For application onto old or smooth concrete, see surface preparation.
Surface preparation Old surfaces All surface to be hard and free from oil, grease, paint, dust or anything which might interfere with the adhesion. Etch pre-damped surface by acid washing with a solution of 1 volume hydrochloric acid and 3 volumes water. Allow acid to react for about 15 minutes, wire-brush and flush with plenty of clean water.
New surfaces For best results, finish concrete topping with a wood float and not a steel trowel. The slab should be well cured for at least one week before application by damping down with clean water daily. Prior to FloorCrete application, surfaces should be well damped but not glistening with water. |
Mixing To one volume of water stir in 4 volumes of FloorCrete powder. This is a guide as temperature and humidity will affect the thickness of the final mix. It should have the consistency of thick syrup. Use all mixed material within 15 minutes. Rather mix small, controlled batches as the product sets quickly. For hard-wearing surfaces to take cars, trolleys, etc., FloorCrete should be mixed with a Flexbond solution comprising 1 volume Flexbond and 2 volumes water.
Application Pour onto the prepared floor sufficient FloorCrete and, using a 6mm tiler's notched trowel held at 45o, spread evenly over the surface. Immediately flatten using a rounded pool plasterer's trowel to a smooth, wrinkle-free surface, not thicker than 2 - 3mm. Clean edge of trowel with a dry cloth after each stroke for improved results. The smaller the area, the easier it will be to obtain a uniform surface. Always keep a wet edge to prevent unsightly joint marks. Cutting into the slab or screed beforehand with a ruling tool in the format of large tiles is very attractive and work can be stopped and later restarted at any of the joints. The speed of hardening is dependent upon the ambient temperature. At 20oC a 2mm screed should be able to take pedestrian traffic within 6 hours. Protect from dirtying immediately after laying and during curing until sealed. Take measures to keep direct sunlight off completed work until fully cured. The employment of a Cemcrete Approved Applicator is advised.
Curing Cure by wetting with clean water 3 times the day following the day of application. This will improve strength. Do not leave puddles of water on the surface. The use of a roller to dampen the surface will prevent this.
Sealing Seal the FloorCrete initially with 1 volume raw linseed oil and 1 volume turpentine and, when dry, apply a good thick coat of any proprietary floor polish to reduce the risk of the finished surface being stained by building debris, etc..
Coverage At an average thickness of 2mm, 20kg mixture should cover 5m2.
Packaging Supplied in 20kg non-returnable paper bags. |
