Step inside this stunning seaside home in Onrus, where coastal charm meets effortless style. The homeowner takes us on a personal tour, sharing their inspiration and the thoughtful touches that make this space a true reflection of relaxed, oceanfront living.
The before and after photos of this home reveal an absolutely stunning transformation. How would you describe your home's style?
"Filled with simple but meaningful pieces that are aesthetically pleasing but also practical. I love clean lines, neutral colours and natural fibres and materials. I love the simplicity and natural wood from Scandinavian homes, but life is too short to be bound to a style. A home should be about the things that fill your heart with joy. I love the concept of “wabi sabi”, which celebrates imperfections – my house is filled with sea shells, feathers and driftwood collected by my daughter, pieces handed down from my parents (that I wouldn’t necessarily have chosen for myself), some handmade art and vintage crockery with chips in them – but that is the story of what makes my house beautiful to me." What inspired you to choose this design style? "I have always loved neutral colours and natural materials, so the house evolved holistically from there. My “brief” to myself was to create a home for myself and my family where we can come to enjoy the ocean and slower pace of a quiet seaside town." What is your favourite characteristic of a cement finish? "Floors can really transform a space. I do not believe they should shout, rather enhance the overall style of the home. The cement finish creates a blank canvas that is easy to keep clean but also contrasts beautifully with textured rugs, wood, and linen." Which Cemcrete product and colour did you choose, and why? "Colour Hardener in Coastal Grey. I wanted something that would create a clean canvas, something that was very practical and it had to be timeless." |
The before and after photos of your home are just incredible! How would you describe the process of using Cemcrete’s finishes during your renovation?
"An absolute joy. It created the blank canvas which allowed me to bring in all the other elements I love without feeling like it would create too much “busy-ness” on the eye."
Any tips for prospective homeowners on choosing finishes for their homes?
"Finishes are forever and will also add to the resell value of your property. I always try to have timeless finishes in the best quality I can afford. I will then save up to buy furniture or art pieces that spark joy. Those you can add over time. A home is layered and constantly evolving – finishes are done once the builder signs off."
