Red Bull Headquarters | Cape Town

The floor beneath your feet is rarely the first thing you notice in a room. When it is done well, it simply belongs; present, purposeful, and quietly alive. At the national headquarters of Red Bull South Africa, located in the V&A Waterfront's South Wing building in Cape Town, Cemcrete's Terrazzo in the colour Stellenbosch Sparkling runs underfoot across all three levels of a space designed to give wings to everything it contains.

The project, led by turnkey project managers Exéc Innovative Solutions and designed by Boogertman + Partners Architects, transformed Red Bull's existing two-floor office into a comprehensive three-level headquarters. The brief called for an interior that merged global brand identity with the spirit of Cape Town; energetic and adventurous, but grounded and professional. The surfaces chosen to carry that interior had to be equal to the task.

Terrazzo is a finish with deep roots and a very contemporary relevance. Cemcrete's Terrazzo is applied at just 8-13mm thick, creating an in-situ cement-based overlay which is diamond-polished to a smooth, glossy finish. It is embedded with curated marble chips that catch and scatter light in a way no flat surface can. The result is a durable, hard-wearing floor that brings personality and movement while remaining, at its core, simple and unfussy. It does not compete with the room. It enriches it.

​Stellenbosch Sparkling is a tone that earns its name. The base is neutral and considered, and the marble chips introduce flickers of light that shift as you move through the space. Across three floors of a high-traffic environment, it creates a sense of continuity, carrying the eye and the foot from the sculptural reception area at the entrance through to the top-floor spaces that look out over the city and the mountain beyond. It extends even to the floating staircase that connects all three levels, a detail that transforms what could have been a purely functional element into one of the most considered surfaces in the building, the marble chips catching the light with every step.

In the boardroom, CreteCote Microcement Nickel Grey was applied across the walls; a cooler, more authoritative tone that lends the room the focused quality a meeting space demands. The same finish was used in a uniquely designed accent IT service window, extending along the countertop (seen above). At the reception desk (seen below), CreteCote Microcement Mist introduces a softer arrival note, welcoming visitors into the space before the full character of the interior unfolds.​

Together, the three finishes work as a considered palette rather than a collection of separate choices. The Terrazzo moves continuously through the building; the CreteCote Microcement surfaces define specific moments within it. The result is an interior where the surfaces hold their own in a space full of bold ideas.
