Saudade Beach Lodge | Mozambique
Saudade is the culmination of a long-held vision by owner and designer Sarah von Hone and her husband, Mike; a contemporary African lodge imagined as both an intimate coastal retreat and a gathering place for family. Rooted in Mozambique’s seafaring spirit, the villa balances relaxed living with refined detailing.

Cemcrete plays a defining role in the lodge’s material palette. Internally, Colour Hardener White floors were hand-floated, creating a soft, luminous surface that enhances natural light and brings cohesion to the interiors. The cement finish offers a cool, durable counterpoint to the warmth of hardwoods, woven textures and bespoke details crafted throughout the lodge.
SatinCrete Parchment was applied to the shower walls, its visually soft, velvety finish adding a gentle warmth and refined texture that elevates the space while maintaining the villa’s understated, natural palette. |

Carefully shaped into the dune on which it sits, the architecture unfolds in a series of low, pitched forms, thoughtfully positioned to preserve the surrounding bush and palms while opening toward sweeping lagoon views. Every element was constructed with care on site, reflecting a hands-on approach and close collaboration with local artisans.

At its heart, an expansive covered patio opens to the garden and infinity pool, capturing the essence of indoor-outdoor living. Saudade is sophisticated, yet relaxed; a space shaped by craftsmanship, thoughtful materials and the enduring presence of Cemcrete underfoot.
