We take an exclusive look into this outstanding home renovation in Port Elizabeth.
The before and after photos of this home show just how incredible the transformation truly is. The homeowner of this charming home takes us through their renovation journey and gives some great tips and tricks for people taking on their own dream renovation project. How would you describe the style of your home?
"The original house luckily, wasn't necessarily a particular style, which made it quite easy to tie into without clashing. So, with the new extension, we aimed for a scaled down version of "Modern Farmhouse". What was your inspiration that led you to this design style? "We had lived for 4 years prior, with no outdoor living space, and with both my husband and I having lived on smallholdings/farms while growing up, it was an easy direction for both of us - opening the house up to the outdoors, double volume spaces, exposed trusses, and loads of natural light. We allowed those characteristics to help guide the overall design." Why did you choose Cemcrete floor and countertop finishes for your home? "We wanted something that was hard-wearing, but that still showed off the integrity and natural aesthetic of the materials chosen." |
What Cemcrete products and colours did you choose and why?
"Colour Hardener (for both the countertops and the floors) Floors, colour Grey. Countertops, colour Slate."
What is your favourite characteristic of a cement finish?
"I love that it still has a natural 'movement' in the finish, and that it still looks like cement - which is why we went with the Grey as opposed to more of a colour. We wanted it to still look as natural as possible."
The Before and After photos of your home are just incredible, how would you describe the process of using Cemcrete’s finishes during your renovation ?
"Thank you! It was such a quick and easy installation - but we had a great team doing the finishing, from Lusion Products in Port Elizabeth."
Any tips for prospective homeowners when choosing finishes for their homes?
"If your budget allows, rather opt for a higher quality finish on the areas that take the hardest wear, for example floors, walls, counter tops - they have a greater visual impact, and can really elevate an interior."
Would you say Cemcrete finishes are pet-friendly?
"Definitely! We went through some weeks where we had four dogs in the house (3 of them, large) and two years later, we still don't have any scratches or cracks."
